Craig Weeding ventures to Narrandera today with seven runners, including Prince Of Helena, in the $60,000 Narrandera Cup. Prince won the same race in 2023, with Holly Durnan in the saddle as he gallantly carried 63kg to a thrilling win. Today, the seven-year-old won't know himself with just 57.5kg on his back, but with Jason Lyon in the saddle, the pair take on a much more challenging addition of the Narrandera Cup. With a place in the $3 million Big Dance on offer to the winner, Prince will have to beat city-class horses, such as the Ciaron Maher-trained Ascension and Leon and Troy Corsterns-trained Magnaspin, but his recent runs in the Swan Hill Cup and at Flemington in the David Bourke have him primed for a big showing. Bookmakers have kept him safe at $5, but Jason Lyon will have to contend with the sticky barrier draw (gate 11 of 12), adding an element of tension to the race.
On a big day of racing at Narrandera, the stable has Gogol (Sarah McDonough, gate 1) in the Narrandera Sprint, Fox Appeal (Alysha Warren, gate 1) in the 2100m Benchmark 66 Handicap, Smuggler's Angel (Jason Lyon, gate 8) and Oimbari (Sarah McDonough, gate 10) in the 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap for fillies and mares, Smart Poppy (Sarah McDonough, gate 10) and Ashau Valley (Hollyt Durnan, gate 8) in the 1400m Benchmark 58 Handicap for colts and geldings.
On a huge day for the team, we're also at Wodonga with three runners going around. Jake Duffy takes all three rides when hopping aboard Supido Storm (gate 4) in the 1400m Maiden Plate, Coomooroo Lady (gate 10) in the 2050m Benchmark 58 Handicap, and Yam (gate 10) in the 1100m Benchmark 58n Handicap.
