One of the Weeding Racing stable stalwarts, Big Day Out, claimed another feature race at Wagga on Sunday, triumphing in the Wagga Winter Sprint (1000m). Starting a despised outsider ($46), the 7YO raced at the rear of the field for jockey Milos Bunjevac. Trailing the big field with three furlongs remaining in the feature race on the program, Bunjevac weaved his magic on Big Day Out, with the pairing threading their way through rival runners before bursting clear to score the unlikeliest of victories. An ever-consistent gelding, Big Day Out’s victory was the 10th of his glittering career, while the result tipped his career earnings over $310,000. A shrewd $2,500 purchase, Big Day Out has been a winner at Flemington, along with picking up other feature races, such as the Tumut Sprint in 2023, back-to-back Leeton Stan Axtill Memorial races in 2022 and 2023, and now the 2025 Wagga Winter Sprint. The result was special for the stable, as it was Craig’s 48th victory of 2024/25, equalling his best-ever season to date. With just over one month left before the 2025/26 season commences, connections will cheer the Weeding Racing team on to their first half-century of victories. Weeding Racing has runners entered at Bendigo (Thursday), Ballarat (Friday), Morphettville (Saturday), Gundagai (Saturday), Wodonga (Saturday), and Caulfield (Saturday).
