Youngsters Continue to Shine for Weeding Racing

In recent weeks, the young stars of Weeding Racing have made their mark on the track, with two debut winners offering a glimpse of what is to come for the hard-working Wangaratta stable.

On Saturday, Tungamah Tess caught the eye at Albury, storming late to win the 1175m Maiden Handicap on debut.

With Jake Duffy in the saddle, the pair began moderately before angling to find a position on the rail. Turning for home, they were met with a wall of horses in front of them, but Duffy somehow navigated through to find clean air. From there, the well-backed $1.65 favourite lengthened and won in impressive fashion.

The promising 3YO Cosmic Force filly, out of Fraternater (x Jet Spur), was bred by Mane Lodge and purchased by Weeding Racing for $20,000 at the 2025 Inglis HTBA Yearling Sale.

Prior to Tungamah Tess, it was Hazardous who announced herself with a debut win in the 1100m Maiden Plate at Wodonga on October 17. The 3YO Redente filly looked every bit as good as her previous six-length trial win at Wangaratta on October 7, cruising to a two-length victory under the hands and heels of Justin Stanley.

Another youngster to win nicely earlier this month was Brave Summit, who produced another strong finish to take out the 1100m Maiden Handicap at Cootamundra on October 4. Blaike McDougall rode the 4YO Bivouac mare, who shapes as another promising type in the Weeding Racing stable.

These results continue what has been a scintillating start to the 2026/27 season for Weeding, who has produced 14 winners at an impressive 18.6% win rate.

Looking ahead over the next two weeks, the stable will be targeting meetings throughout Victoria and New South Wales. The stable’s headline act will be Yam, who is set to be second-up in the $500,000 Melbourne Cup Country Carnival Final (1600m) at Flemington on Thursday, November 5.

The 6YO Pluck gelding earned his place in the final following a second-place finish in the 1500m Benchmark 78 Handicap qualifier at Geelong on October 21. While also eligible for the $3 million Big Dance at Royal Randwick on Tuesday, November 3, connections have opted for the more winnable final at Flemington.
